Hello Swedish people! I am reading a swedish book and I can't get a handle on what this would mean.

    This is the whole sentence:

Ett föl och ett sto sjönk i märgelgraven. Farfar slog den han älskade några gånger, och sonen Sven ärvde en hand av honom.

Apart from the beginning of the sentence (which I wrote just for context reasons), what does "ärva en hand av någon" mean? I tried to translate it like: "and Sven, his son, helped him" but I know it's not correct.

    Any help? Tack för mycket!

My understanding is that the son inherited the tendency to use heavy-handed love.
