Hi everyone!

I'm sorry if my question is in English, but in fact, I don't speak Swedish, but I have a question about the Swedish culture

I know there is a creature called the mountain king (Bergsrå) in Nordic mythologies, and I noticed that the Swedish artist John Bauer is connected somehow to The Mountain King, there was even a movie called John Bauer and The Mountain King that talks about his life and his love story, but the movie is no longer available, as far as I know.
Moreover, the royal opera in Stockholm was going to have a ballet about his art called The Mountain King, but the project didn't see the light because of WWI.
John was known for his unique art of fantasies, but why his name is connected to the mountain king specifically?

Thanks in Advance!

  • When I hear the word "Bergakungen" I only think about a piece of music by Edvard Grieg known in Swedish as "I bergakungens sal" (In the Hall of the Mountain King) but that has nothing to do with John Bauer.

"Bergakungen" seems to be some kind of troll. John Bauer was famous for his paintings of trolls and other mythological creatures.

I didn't know about the ballet "Bergakungen" but after looking it up it seems like it was John Bauer who came with the idea so I guess that might be why he is "connected" with that name.
