I wonder if there is a list of words that changed its spelling in 1898. I know QV changed to KV and E changed to Ä, but I don't seem to understand the last change. Why did some words get altered (där, dvärg, älg, änka) whereas others remained the same (hem, fem, beska, mest, skepp)?

I have checked, it isn't etymological spelling. Dvärg, älg and änka were written with 'e' in Old Norse.

To me the examples you listed sound different, more or less.
