Both appear to mean find out, so what's the difference?
Ta reda på means actively finding information.
Jag måste ta reda på hur man ansöker. (I have to find out how to apply.)
Få reda på - here the focus is on the fact that you get hold of the information.
Hon fick reda på att han var otrogen. (She found out that he was cheating on her.)
De fick reda på att det var en pojke. The midwife told the couple that it was a boy. You don't know if they asked for that information or not.
De tog reda på att det var en pojke. They wanted to know the sex of the baby and actively took steps to find out.
