My company is working with the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. One thing has confused me pretty much. The Swedish name of that Academy is "Kungliga Vetenskapsakademien", and the abbreviation is "IVA".

Is there any special rules for Swedish abbreviations? I think it should be "KVA". Where does the "I" come from?

    Hello!

The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences is Kungliga Ingenjörsvetenskapsakademien in Swedish - IVA.

Kungliga Vetenskapsakademien, KVA, The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, is a different institution.
