Dear friends,

a question just crosses my mind when I was wandering in words in dictionary: Does "sweet nothings" consist of the love related words that a mother tells for her kid? Or it is limited to romantic relationships between different genders?

"Sweet nothings" are the words of no great importance exchanged by lovers. There's no reason why the phrase should be restricted to heterosexual relationships. I don't think I've ever seen it used to refer to a mother talking to her child.

    I also agree.
The stuff that mothers say to their babies could be described as cooing (which could also include humming and singing):)

She spent ten minutes cooing at the baby before she noticed it wasn't even one of hers.
