    LOL, well everything you said was exactly right, now you just need a verb!;)

    I would say
    "This cathedral bears witness (stands testament) to our prestigious past" (or heritage depending on the context)

    Well, there are several options of "témoigner de + qqch;" I'm afraid we don't have one neat equivalent for this useful expression. :)

    This cathedral bears witness to our...
    This cathedral stands as testament of our...
    This cathedral is evidence of our...
    This cathedral hints at our... (weaker)
    etc.
