This is football (soccer). I looked up the phrase "take in stride" in the WRD meaning to deal with calmly. But in football, does it mean "to clear" to be exact?

80' That was a chance! One does well to tee up Barkley with a cushioned touch, and the youngster as always takes it in his stride. He drives towards the edge of the box, but once again delays his strike, and Lascelles is on hand to make the block.
