A friend of mine just moved to brasil and we are trying to speak in brasilian portugues to each other..
but while i know the words, i cant figure out the correct grammar and phrasing for these sentences:

1. i will have to visit at some point

2. are you going to hang out with Alex?

3. ill miss you if you never come back!

4. what are you doing every day?
OR
what are you up to lately?

muito obrigada!!

  • Hi, Kay.

Of course you know there are many different ways of saying these sentences in Brazilian Portuguese, for two reasons: 1) Brazil has many different regions with their own particular ways of saying things; 2) The language in your examples is informal, which widens the possibilities.

Having said that, here are my suggestions:

    1.
Tenho que te visitar em breve.
Em algum momento, vou ter que visitar (alguém/algum lugar).

    2.
Você vai sair com (o) Alex?
Você vai encontrar (com) (o) Alex (quando sair)? I would ask this only if it was implied that I know you're going out

    3.
Vou sentir sua falta se você não voltar mais.
Vou sentir saudade(s) (suas) se você nunca mais voltar.

    4.
Como têm sido (os) seus/teus dias? Notice the verb "ter" here is plural (days), which explains the circumflex accent.
O que você tem feito ultimamente?
    Quais são as novidades?

More possible translations will come soon, I'm sure ;)
    Hope that helps.

    Um abraço.
    Paulo.

    THANK YOU!
    so helpful.

does portugues differ that greatly between regions in Brasil? so much so that it would interfere in understanding?

thats so interesting. you learn something new every day!

    Hello Kay!

Paulo parenthesized some words above, as you may have already noticed, and there is some reason for that-- those are pretty much the words that will be said or omitted accordingly to the origin of your Brazilian friend.

Kay, I think that your friend can understand what you said independent on the place that he is.
Maybe you will not write as him, but you can comunicate!
