In a sentence such as "It will allow me to apply the teamwork, communication and research skills."

With the way the sentence is phrased, does skills apply to teamwork (as in teamwork skills) as well or only communication and research?

Yes, I think 'skills' must apply to teamwork. You can't apply 'teamwork'. That sounds meaningless. But you can apply 'teamwork skills'.

But in my opinion, a comma is required after communication.
