Un mio amico sta formando un gruppo di ciclisti, impegnati nella mobilità sostenibile, il rispetto per l'ambiente, l'ecologia, ecc. Mi manda una email nella quale mi spiega che intende inserirmi nel gruppo a livello di consigliere. Insomma, un incarico ufficiale nel nascente direttivo.
Io vorrei dirgli, garbatamente, che non posso accettare l'incarico in quanto troppo impegnato nel lavoro e per altre faccende personali, soprattutto in famiglia.
Direi: " Temo di non poter accettare l'incarico di consigliere nel direttivo del nuovo gruppo che stai creando: sono troppo impegnato col lavoro e in famiglia".
I'm afraid I can't accept the position of counselor in the board of directors of the new group you are setting up: I'm too busy because of my job and my family".

Much as I would like/love to accept the position of counsellor on the board of directors in the new group you're setting up, I don't think I can (due to)/(because of) work and family commitments might be a diplomatic way of putting it. 🙂

Another option would be to begin with the last part of your statement,

Due to work and family commitments I unfortunately cannot accept the position of counselor on the board of directors for/in your new group.

Another option might be:

As much as I would like to accept the position of counselor on the board of directors, I cannot accept at this time due to work and family commitments. I don't think I can devote the time required to do the job properly and provide the level of service I consider acceptable.
