Then Sam takes a dagger from under Dean's pillow. Dean:
-- That's not fear. That is precaution.

"Precaution" is always countable, so, shouldn't it be "a precaution"? Thanks.

    It's not always countable.
    See the first definition in the OED:
    1. Caution exercised beforehand to avoid a danger or ensure a good result; prudent foresight.

    'That is a precaution' sounds more natural to me, but there is nothing incorrect as originally written. Dean is telling Sam that having the dagger under his pillow is a precautionary measure.
