Hi, people. I'm back.

The following sentence has been teasing my mind since I met it for the first time:

"Our professional ethics enjoins us to stay uncommitted and report the facts; and, if we have to have guidelines, that's probably as good a one as any."

Please share your understanding of that sentence, thank you!

  • Hi mcmay,

"Our job is to report the facts without bias; and that's probably as good a guideline as any."

Maybe more accurate to say "Our job is to remain unbiased and report the facts..."

The fault is not in your understanding, but in their communication. By the way, it's 'ethic enjoins' or 'ethics enjoin'. GEmatt's version is much better.

Thank you, my dear. Yours is nice, too. You guys are so strong in understanding the English language.
