A guy asks what you need to know about dating a bi girl. Girls in a YT video reply:
-- I don't know why there would be different requirements for dating a bi girl vs dating a straight girl. That's the misconception. Here it is, you think that bi girls are greedy, or that there's gonna be some crazy outstanding thing that's gonna happen. No. If a girl's gonna leave you for a dude, she's gonna leave you for a lady, it doesn't matter, she's still leaving you.

It could have been "that's a misconception" as well.
But using THE, to me, emphasizes that it's the main stereotype/misconception about this matter. This is very common misconception. So THE was used. Am I right?
