But my daughter, who had regarded her brother’s Lego with only intermittent interest, greeted the candy-bright Lego Friends like the appearance of a choir of heavenly angels. She loved the minifigure animals. She loved the stories and characters. She loved the pretend-play possibilities of having a Lego ice cream parlor or a Lego house.

like the appearance of a choir of heavenly angels...

does this sentence mean that the first time the daughter saw the candy-bright Lego Friends, she had the appearance of a choir of heavenly angels?

I assume the reference is to the Christmas account in Luke 2:13 'Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God', leaving the shepherds awe-struck and filled with excitement at the announcement of the birth of Jesus.

The daughter was filled with awe and excitement like the shepherds.
