(the) British/American/Chinese/Italian/etc culture

Hi all, when talking about culture in general, is "the" needed? For example:

By going on this trip, you can learn more about (the) British culture.
I have always been fascinated by (the) American culture.
(The) Chinese culture has a long history.

I tried to find the answer by myself using Google, but the results show that both forms are very common, and I can't make sense of the difference between them. Thanks for any help!
