Hi,

Are these two sentences correct?

1)The scholars worried about the decline of the academic standards.

2)The scholars worried about the drop of the academic standards.

Thanks in advance!!!

Close, but I would reword them as such:

    1) The scholars worried about the decline of academic standards (presuming that you're not talking about a specific set of standards).

    2) The scholars worried about the drop in academic standards.

    In AE (American English)---

1)The scholars worried about the decline of the in academic standards. [Of is ok, but less frequent than in.]

2)The scholars worried about the drop of/in the academic standards. [This is correct, but less formal.]
