Hi folks, this is cited from a documentary about surf, surfing, tow surfing etc.
I am troubled with this sentence: Does it mean when you hit the water the element (your surfing style) does not matter?
But element must be weather, water, or naturul conditions to my knowledge.

if you fall down on the takeoff, whether you're tow surfing or not tow surfing, the element there is no different when you take the pounding.

Yes, it is referring to water (the element) pounding you. Whatever kind of surfing you're doing, it feels exactly the same when you fall down – the water pounds you heavily.
