Hello

Could you guys please help me with this sentence ("The equilibrium should shift to the side with smaller/the smallest volume")?

There are only two sides in chemistry reactions: the reagents and the products--so it seems to me that both are possible. Nevertheless, I believe that there must be one option that is the most natural.

    I agree. When there are only two options, the comparative ("smaller") is usually preferred. Note that using the comparative does not alter whether or not you use the definite article, and here it is needed: ...to the side with the smaller volume.
