Hello to all,

Thanks for reading my post.

Sample sentence:

Goodness of fit - (statistics) the extent to which <the> observed sample values of a variable approximate to values derived from a theoretical density, often measured by a chi-square test.

Question:

The sample sentence is the definition for "goodness of fit" given in an electronic dictionary called "ABBYY Lingvo". "The" is not used in the original version. Would it be correct to include it?

Thanks a lot for any comments, corrections or suggestions!

Regards,

    Thanks for the response, JulianStuart.

    A. Goodness of fit - (statistics) the extent to which the observed sample values of a variable approximate to the values derived from a theoretical density, often measured by a chi-square test.

    B. Goodness of fit - (statistics) the extent to which observed sample values of a variable approximate to values derived from a theoretical density, often measured by a chi-square test.

Are versions A and B interchangeable?
