Hi,

Normcore has been called the internet meme of 2014. The flag was first raised by a New York trend-forecasting agency called K-Hole, which produced a report containing the madly catchy concept of normcore – a vanilla anti-style.

(This comes from newsweek.com 'Normcore,' Where Being Off-Message Is On-Trend by Catherine Ostler on 4/11/14.)

Does the blue part mean "K-Hole was the first to bring normcore to people's attention"?

Thanks in advance!

That's the way I would interpret it. Just to add a bit:

"K-Hole was the first to bring normcore to people's attention as a thing." :)

Could you tell me why "as a thing" is added?
Does "raise a flag" means "bring something to people's attention" or "bring something to people's attention as a thing"?
