Don't forget he was only sixteen (?) when he wrote it, and full of the emotions typical in a boy of that age, and conscious particularly of his emerging virility, and wondering what to do with it - yes, it's undoubtedly about that. The paraphrases I've found on the web aren't much easier to understand than the original, and often send one in what I regard as the wrong direction - take all that stuff about body fluids in the penultimate verse, for instance.
