Hi all, how can I refer to a pane of glass that is installed in the top half of a wooden door? The sentence I have in mind is as follows:

We accidentally threw the basketball towards the door and smashed the glass in/of the door.

Many thanks!

Just say: We accidentally threw the basketball towards the door and smashed the glass. It will be implied that the door had a glass panel.

Thanks, but I really want to know how a native speaker would refer to such a glass. A glass panel in the door, perhaps? Or simply the door glass?

"We accidentally threw the basketball towards the door and smashed one of the/its glass panels."
