Someone brought me this sentence and said that his teacher (who is a native speaker, he added) insisted that this sentence is correct. But, I think 'for' should be deleted. Am I missing something here? What do you guys think?

I know you're busy and the last thing you want is for a major interruption. But Toby has an announcement to make.

    You are correct. "For" should be deleted or more words should be added. Any of these would be correct:

    ...the last thing you want is a major interruption.
    ...the last thing you want is for a major interruption to happen.
    ...the last thing you want is for a major interruption to occur.
