For example:

How can I ask a student do not speak so loud?

Can you speak soflty please?

I know the totally opposite is silently.

Thanks

"softly" means that something is said quietly but gently. i.e. If someone says something in a soft voice you might imagine a mother whispering in her child's ear or a lover saying sweet things to their partner.
