Hello,

I'm having trouble grasping the use of the word "from" in the above sentence. Is the use correct? Just for your reference, Courbet is an artist, a painter, and Bruyas is his patron.

    Bruyas bought the painting from Courbet, who had to paint it first, so first Bruyas commissioned it from Courbet. It's a less familiar word, but it takes the same grammar. Both verbs can be made passive.
