The above passage is from Cambridge IELTS 9-Test 2-passage 3's reading practice.

What does this sentence mean here, espeically the word "perception" ?

  • Perception means the way that someone views/observes/understands something subjectively. It may or may not correspond to objective reality. So here what is being discussed is not whether someone actually is enthusiastic, for example, but whether we think that they are enthusiastic.
