A computer programmer, Breen developed a computer-based, multiple-choice quiz to help his son build vocabulary. The quiz is designed to adjust to the user's vocabulary level so that questions are challenging yet not too difficult.

Hi,
Is "adjust to" equivalent "fit" and "match?" If not, what should I understand it? Thanks.

I would read it to mean that the program adapts the vocabulary it uses in the quizzes to match the user's level. It's not clear whether it does so based on answers to previous questions, in which case I would use "adapt", or whether it does so based on an initial test, which would be closer to "match".

In short, I don't know. By saying "adjust to" I think it implies that the program changes the vocabulary used in the questions "on the fly", as the user answers questions.
