the story unravels

Hi, I am trying to learn the word "unravel" and found the following two examples.
I checked "unravel" on WF dictionary but feel unsure about my own interpretations.

- the story unravels
Does it mean the story continue to develop and some earlier mysteries got solved?

- friends went to the bar together, and the night unraveled
Does it mean the night somehow became dangerous or did not go as planned?

Thanks, Julie

Mysteries might unravel. If a story unravels, some reader might suspect that the story is falling apart or the narrative is collapsing.

A night that unravels probably does not go as planned.

    Basically “unravel” has 3 definitions
1- “undo or become separated” if something is knitted, knotted or woven.
2- “begin to fail” for system or plan...
3- “clearer or easier to understand” for something mysterious or puzzling...
    So I think....
sentence1 - the story had some hidden points but now it becomes clearer.
Sentence2 - the night went wrong or didn’t go as planned or expected.
