The red light indicated that the surgery was still in progress, so the patient's family had to wait outside.


I wonder if I could say "the surgery was still going on" instead. Thanks.

    It might be a personal preference, but I would never say ".....the surgery is still going on".

    (There's something about the combination of "going on" and "still"........"going on" usually means somthing is happening, while "still" means that something is remaning in a state of being, it seems very odd to me to put them together)

    But you know, that's just me.
