the way to ask the conversion of different measurements

Hi,

If I need to know the answer like "1 gallon =~ 3.8 liters", can I get it if I ask this way:

"What's the difference between liter and gallon?"

If not, what should I ask?

Thanks.

Thank you lian, but suppose you don't know if a gallon is larger than a liter, or the other way around, so you can't be sure it is "many liters in a gallon" or "many gallons in a liter", what would you ask then?

    Thanks.

True, good point. Normally, I know which one's bigger, in this case, I know that gallons are bigger. If you really don't know, you could ask, "how do gallons compare to litres?", or something like that.

I don't see any difference between money and volume when it comes to such questions.

We talk about the conversion rate between the yen and U.S. dollar and although that's a variable, I would still talk about the conversion rate/ratio where volumetric measure is concerned.
