Salaam,

I guess that the writer means that supernatural elements has formed a thick layer in the contemporary world, I mean they have a great weight. Am I wrong?

"In the industrial revolution, the technological triumph over nature posited a new kind of “supernatural,” an anti-nature: “the artifice of eternity” as Yeats expressed it. In the digital epoch, artificial life appears as a new order, the cybernatural (Cubitt). These imaginings of the otherworldly form deep strata in the contemporary."

Film Theory and Contemporary Hollywood Movies, chapter two: The Supernatural in Neo-baroque Hollywood, by Sean Cubitt
