Good day.

Could anyone explain how to visualize "three roads abreast". The text that I am translating into Catalan, by a lady Quillinan (late 19th cent.) states the following:

There are three roads abreast ; the centre, which is very broad, is appropriated to pedestrians, and the other two to carriages and horsemen, the goers to the city keeping to the right side, the outgoers to the left.

Thank you very much in advance :)

    Hello TPS,

The roads are parallel. The center is for pedestrians, while the lanes on either side are for vehicles. Just think of a three lane highway.
