Good morning, everyone.

Garmin is a US GPS maker and Garmin Fenix is a GPS watch. A passage from its owner manual:

Backlight settings:
Hold "up" and select "Settings>System>Backlight."
Mode: sets the backlight to turn on manually or for keys and alerts.
Timeout: sets the length of time before the backlight turns off
Brightness: sets the brightness level of the backlight.

Does "timeout" sound natural and correct in this context?

  • Seems fine to me: it's the programmer's use of the word:

From the WRF Collins Concise English Dictionary © HarperCollins Publishers::

    time-outn
    1. an interruption in play during which players rest, discuss tactics, or make substitutions
    2. a break taken during working hours
    3. a condition occurring when the amount of time a computer has been instructed to wait for another device to perform a task has expired, usually indicated by an error message
