Hi All

Lucien tire le rideau de fer de la façade en disant « à lundi ».

When you read this do you see someone pulling closed the iron grille (horizontally)

Or pulling down the iron shutter.

I know, I know a pedantic question... but what do you see on reading thaT straight off?

Thanks

S

It might be horizontally , as usually it is said "descendre le rideau de fer" when vertically. But it's not 100% bullet proof.

The chances are very high that it's vertical, and if it were horizontal, it would probably be 'grille', not 'rideau'. Well, that's my feeling...

Yes and everybody sees a different thing when they read a book, so I will go with what I see: a shutter.
