Could it possibly refer to these tactics ??

‘Shoot and scoot’ was a tactic used by the North Vietnamese army, this was that when the Americans or ARVN set up permanent bases the VC or NVA would attack with artillery or mortar fire, they would normally do this during the night, then leave shortly after they fired their rounds before any serious threat by coordinated fire was made against them. A short time after this (around an hour) another attack would often be made from a different location. These raids were conducted in the hope of drawing out patrols and possibly even luring them into an ambush. The Vietcong also used snipers their job was to try and surprise the enemy and hopefully pick off a few of the US troops before their positions were compromised.

    Salve a tutti,

    Grazie mille!

Forse: diversionary fire. Vedi questo testo dal Internet: On March 14, 1968, Jim and his aircraft commander were sent on a close-air support mission to assist in diversionary fire for a helicopter evacuation about 18 miles southwest of the city of Hue where the 304th North Vietnamese regiment was active.

    Ciao.

    Ciao.
I'm not sure it's exactly the same thing, but it's definitely something very similar.
