I have been told that the Hebrew word for tithe and wealth are very similar. I hope you can enlighten me about their similarity. Thank you in advance.

tithe = מעשר, from root ע-שׂ-ר (same root as of עשר = ten)
wealth = עושר, from root ע-שׁ-ר

The roots are similar but not identical. Note the position of the dot above the letter ש.
    שׂ (dot at the left) = /s/
    שׁ (dot at the right) = /sh/

Fun fact: tithe comes from the old English teogotha, meaning "tenth", similar to מעשר from עשר.
