to abdicate (?) myself from feeling any responsibility

I was trying to clarify my thoughts about something and wrote this: "I’d only be contacting him selfishly, to abdicate myself from feeling any responsibility."

First I had 'extricate', then I switched to 'abdicate'. Are either of those right? I feel like there's a more appropriate word that I'm missing...

"Myself" looks strange to me after "abdicate", pilar. I don't think it makes much sense to talk of "abdicating oneself from a feeling of responsibility." To me, "absolve" would be much better in this phrase: ...to absolve myself from any feeling of responsibility.
