Hallo everybody! The expression is from the book “Gifted” by Nikita Lalvani. Here are adjacent phrases:

Rumi nods, frowning and trying to understand why Norris McWhirter, the man who presents the TV show, would say Shakuntala Devi is a liar. It doesn't add tip.

Does it mean that frowning and nods do not help her understand?

    It looks like a typographical error. "It doesn't add up" would fit perfectly in that context. "It doesn't add up" means "it does not follow logically" or "it doesn't make sense when analyzed."
