To be a brick

Hi,

what does "brick" mean in this sentence :

"Thanks, You're a real brick"

Does it mean "friend" ?

I've never heard this, but often heard you're a real rock (une personne solide et stable sur laquelle on peut compter en situation de crise)

In BE "brick" means a generous, helpful, and reliable person. The expression is dated.

Ok I found that in the movie : "Atonement" (from Ian McEwan novel) great movie by the way =)
