To be told, you're told

[Jigoku no Tenshi]

Hello Everybody!

I've seen this expression a lot of times, and according to others threads, it is a passive expression, and it means to be ordered, or have been told, so my question is:

Does it "to be told" have another meaning?

Because I sometimes when I read it I feel like it the meaning were "to be predisposed", maybe, it's because if you're told to do something, the first thing that you think when you're going to do it, is what you've been told

It depends on what follows. When followed by an infinitive, I agree with your first definition:

I was told to go that way, so I did.
He was told to clean his room, and he got in trouble when he didn't.

If it is followed by that, it means you were informed:
I was told that pink roses smell the sweetest.
Paris is prettiest in spring, I'm told. (that is assumed here.)

I cannot think of an example where it means predisposed, though. Can you try to find one?

Now I know the meaning, I can't think of an example, but I have these, that I thought they meant "predisposed"

"We get told to decide, just like as if I'm not gonna change my mind"
"Do you accept You're told"
"I do what I want, but you do what you're told"

In these three cases I thought of course because of the context, that they meant predisposed look at these:

"We get predisposed to decide, just like as if I'm not gonna change my mind"
"Do you accept You're predisposed"
"I do what I want, but you do what you're predisposed"

For me all of them made that sense to me, but now I don't think that's the meaning anymore, it happened to me before with other words or sentences or phrasal verbs, thank god I found WR, to check before I keep talking like I did

I have to agree with Kelly and say that say that "predisposed" is not a meaning I associate with this verb construction.

We get told to decide, just like as if I'm not gonna change my mind" = We are ordered to decide, just like as if I'm not gonna change my mind.

"Do you accept You're told". I have a bit of a problem with this; it looks as if something is missing. "Do you accept that you're told" means "Do you accept that you've been advised/warned."

"I do what I want, but you do what you're told" = I do what I want, but you do what you're ordered to do."

Hello, well Thomas F. O'Gara, I must agree with you, I made this thread because I was confussed, I've self-taught english for a while, and I always try to understand things according to the context, and without another point of view, I can be wrong most of the times, when I finally learnt the meaning of "to be told" I said: "Of course! How could I think something else?", but before "predisposed" was the word that I thought it could be. But now I know and I won't make that mistake again
