Is there a term in French (other than démarrer) to express the moment when you try to start a motor, such as in a car or a lawn mower, when the starting mechanism "catches". That is to say, from that moment on the motor runs on its own, but until that moment you might have to try again to start the motor.

To my knowledge, there is no specific term, apart from "le moteur tourne (tout seul)".

Just to clarify, I am referring to the specific moment when the motor starts, not the continual state of operation afterwards.

"Lancer le moteur" seems good, or else: "au lancement du moteur", "lors du lancement du moteur", lors de la mise en route/marche du moteur", "pendant l'enclenchement du moteur".

Imo, you can insist on the fact that the motor is starting while another action occurs using: "pendant", "lors de/du", "durant".
