This was a deeply controversial move; no one had won an election by essentially skipping the first four or five caucuses and primaries. With this decision, he consigned himself to the media shadows during weeks of intensive coverage. (source)

The newspapers and news channels will cover those campaigning for those first caucuses and primaries. Since he is neither campaigning nor receiving votes, he isn't of interest to the reporters, columnists, and commentators. His name will not be mentioned in the constant news coverage. He won't be in the spotlight, the center of attention, the focus of others; he will be relegated, left in the shadows.
