Would anyone be kind enough to tell me the verb in French to use for disbanding a choir? Destituer?
If I am correct, what else can one "destituer"?

I would rather say "dissoudre" than "destituer"

One can generally dissoudre a unit made of a group of people like a band, a choir, an association, a political organization. It means that the group no longer exists as a group.
'(beware, you can also "dissoudre" sugar (or anything else which is "soluble" in water)
You generally "destituer" a single person, it means "to deprive someone of one's office". You generally "destitue" an official.

charlie, 'company' is a faux ami. une compagnie in french cannot relate to a corporation.

but you can 'dissoudre une compagnie de théâtre' no problem.

Hello Charlie,
"Compagnie" in business does exist, it is just a question of legal status. It cannot be a corporation with private capital, it has to be an association.
We have for instance :
La compagnie des Indes
Une compagnie de chemin de fer
Une compagnie maritime
Une compagnie aérienne
But do not use this word to translate the word "company", then choose "entreprise" and you are sure not to make a mistake !
