to eat life out of the big box

Steve talks to a girl about his life. He pays the bills, has hobbies, loves to have fun. He does not mention that he is a drug addict and a bit strange person.
He adds: "I eat life out of the big box". Does it mean that he lives creatively, 'differently'? Does he live life to the fullest?

He lives life to the fullest. "He lives large." is a similar slang expression.
On another level, Life (with a capital L) is a breakfast cereal. He buys Life in the biggest box and eats it right out of the box.

I've never heard the expression and would have to guess what was meant, but I'd probably come to something like Myridon's conclusion.
