to enlist a new ally

Is "arruolare" appropriate in a non-military context such as?:

"...State authorities have enlisted a new ally in their fight against the West Nile Virus."

In this case the "ally" is a naturally occuring tiny creature that destroys mosquito larvae.

    Hi Georgiadis,
You can also say "ingaggiato un nuovo alleato", or even "si sono procurati un nuovo alleato", but in my opinion "arruolato" is right.
