Hi, I was just wondering, where does this expression come from ? I get the meaning, but it just doesn't make sense to me. I asked around, but no one seems to know how to explain it. Anyone here knows ?

Yeah, I did, and from what I understand, it just evolved from the expression ass over head. I guess, I was just hoping to find something slightly more like an anecdote to explain it...
Well, fair enough. Thanks to you all !

Well, the etymology is quickly summed up but you have that, at least
The usual British version is ass over tip (or tit), which occurs in James Joyce's Ulysses, among other works. This form also occurs in America. For instance, in The Grapes of Wrath Steinbeck has a character say "You jus' scrabblin' ass over tit, fear somebody gonna pin some blame on you."
Which is what egueule had suggested in the FR/EN forum. (ass over tit).
