To give fragrance 'a lift'

Senior Member
Hi there,

At the moment I'm trying to find out what aldehydes are in perfumery and what effect to they produce.

It's written that "aldehydes can do quite a number of things to a perfume, but probably the most desired effect is that they give 'lift' to a composition" and also that "the frag "moves" when you smell it - kind of sparkles; it doesn't sit still" and "Aldehydes heighten the frag, though, and perhaps that feature is less popular now, when many people want a closer to the skin scent and a more subtle type smell".

Can I resume the text above to the suggestion that aldehydesmake the fragrance more volatile?

Thank you!
