To have a lot riding

Senior Member
In a documentary, a miner makes a phone call to check how the operations goes in a certain area.
When he asks, the other miner in that area says: "We're still pulling some gold here, but it slowed down a little bit. But it still looks promising."
The miner who calls says: "You know, we've got a lot riding there."
Does he mean "to have a lot going on?" Like, to have an important operation.
Thank you.
