To have a thought

I haven't written to my friends for a while.
I said to them that even If I don't write to them very often, I always have a thought for them. I don't think it's correct . It sounds weird !
If you see what I mean could you please tell me the proper of saying that ?

Try "I always think of them" or "I always have them in my thoughts" (substitute with the appropriate pronoun, of course)

I would say:
Even though I don't write to them very often, I am always thinking of them.

you would say:
I am always thinking of you
or:
You are always in my thoughts.

Or in the words of the song "you were always on my mind" or in this case "you ARE always on my mind". In this case "always" is not meant to convey that for every second of the day I am thinking of you, it is idiomatic. (I think that's what it's called...grammar huh!).
